Guidelines for Authors
Authors are asked to use the provided Microsoft® Word® template to ensure
that the guidelines below are adhered to.

by email (JHRE@troy.edu)
as an attachment in Microsoft® Word® document format for text development.
Enter “JHRE” as the subject. Text should be double spaced and left and right justified.
Embed tables and figures in the text in the desired location. Follow the APA Style
Manual to the extent applicable to the subject material. Other format guidelines
are provided below.
Base Font: Use Times New Roman 12 pt.
Margins: Use 1 inch margins throughout the entire manuscript.
Length: Article manuscripts should be
less than 20 double-spaced pages in length, including title page, abstract, tables,
figures, and references. If warranted by the topic, a longer manuscript may be accepted.
Commentaries, cases, resource reviews, and similar materials should be considerably
shorter, typically 600 – 1,500 words.
Title Page: Center title, names and affiliations
of authors, including addresses. Do not provide author titles (e.g., Dr., Associate
Professor).

an abstract of 120 or fewer words. Center the word, Abstract, using all capital
letters. Type the body of the Abstract in italics. Text should begin on page 3.
Headings: Center first-level headings
using all capital letters (e.g., METHODOLOGY); center second-level heading using
title case (e.g., Sample Size).
Footnotes: Footnotes should not be used.
References: List references at the end
of the paper on a separate page in alphabetical order following the APA (American
Psychological Association) style of referencing.
About the Author: All submissions should
include a brief paragraph (approximately 50 words) about the author(s). Submit author
information on a separate sheet, providing name, affiliation, 2-3 sentences that
identify current position responsibilities, education, principal interests, and
an email address.
Supplemental Guidelines for Book Reviews, Cases,
and Experiential Exercises: Supplemental guidelines for contributors of these
submissions are posted separately on the JHRE website. The guidelines presented
above are also to be followed.
