Program Requirements

Application Deadline: Applications must be completed at least two weeks before the start of the semester.  To receive full consideration for assistantships, applications should be completed by April 1 for August admission and November 1 for January admission.

Requirements for Admission: A bachelor’s degree is required for admission to all Troy University master’s programs. Applicants for the M.A. in economics program must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in all undergraduate economics courses, a 3.0 GPA in their last 30 hours of undergraduate coursework, and a minimum score of 294 (composite) on the Graduate Record Examination.  International students must also make a satisfactory score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language, International English Language Testing System, or ACT COMPASS ESL exam, OR complete Troy University English as a Second Language courses.

Admission Course Requirements: Intermediate micro, intermediate macro, one semester of calculus, introductory or business statistics.

Interested students must complete a Troy University graduate application, pay the application fee, submit official transcripts of all undergraduate coursework, arrange for two letters of recommendation, and take the Graduate Record Examination.  Students interested in a Johnson Center M.A. in Economics Assistantships must also submit a separate application to the Johnson Center.

International students whose native language is not English must also make a satisfactory score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (193 computer based, or 523 paper based) OR the International English Language Testing System (6.0) OR the ACT COMPASS ESL (total 270 on Listening, Reading and Grammar sections with no individual score below 85 AND 8 out of 12 on the writing portion).
