Seven Troy University students majoring in risk management and insurance recently spent three weeks in London studying at Lloyd’s of London insurance market. The students were accompanied by Dr. Carol Jordan, Eminent Scholar of Risk Management and Insurance. The Lloyd’s experience has become an annual event for Troy University students.
“All of the students did very well in their internships or shadow days,” Dr. Jordan said. “This was a great opportunity for them to see how the process of this type of insurance works.”
The students that visited London were Kelly Everson of Foley, Robby Farmer of Hayden, Justin Griffith of Bessemer, Lee Milliner of Enterprise, Daniel Oaks of Birmingham, Sarah Storm of Coker and Cassie Wilkenson of Miami. Of these students, Storm has graduated and is now employed at Aronov Insurance Corporation in Montgomery and four others are now at internships at various agencies around the country.
Lloyd’s started in the 1688 as a way for ship captains to insure their ships and cargo. Today, Lloyd’s insures everything that smaller insurance companies can’t, such as large corporations and overseas operations.
